How to calculate leave accrual

  1. 1Find the per-period accrual. Divide your annual entitlement by the number of accrual periods in a year (12 for monthly, 26 for bi-weekly, and so on).
  2. 2Multiply by periods elapsed. Multiply the per-period accrual by how many periods have passed to get the leave accrued so far.
  3. 3Subtract days used. Available balance = accrued − days already taken.

How does leave accrual work?

Instead of granting a full year of leave up front, accrual adds a fixed amount each period (monthly, bi-weekly, etc.) so your balance grows over the year.

How do I calculate accrued PTO?

Divide annual entitlement by the number of accrual periods per year, then multiply by periods elapsed. Subtract days already used for your available balance.
